What is ProST

Process Support Tool (ProST) is a more generic version of Modelling Support Tool (MoST). It aims to support a broad class of collaborative multidisciplinary processes in projects.

MoST, developed in HarmoniQuA, supports multidisciplinary teams in integrated modelling studies. Team members have different disciplinary backgrounds and play different roles in projects, i.e. water manager, modeller, auditor, stakeholder and public. MoST provides guidance from a modelling knowledge base (KB) on how to use models in several water management domains, monitors what all team members do in a modelling journal (with all associated files linked), facilitates communication between authorised team members, based on this shared modelling journal and helps generating reports. A glossary and extensive multimedia help and instruction complete MoST.

Although MoST is a powerful tool, it has a number of limitations because it is focused on model-based water management. Other collaborative multidisciplinary projects could also use such a tool, e.g. water stress mitigation (in AquaStress), integration of science and policy for coastal systems (SPICOSA) and adaptive water management (NeWater). Furthermore, there was a need for a web based tool to develop and use glossaries with terms from several projects and disciplines. Therefore, MoST has been split into a Glossary Tool (see Glossary Tool flyer) and a more generic Process Support Tool. ProST enables experts to manage collaborative multidisciplinary projects beyond model-based water management.

ProST has been developed within the project Making MoST Flexible, which has been commissioned by Harmoni-CA,  has been supported by AquaStress and was developed by Wageningen University in cooperation with Theodore Kargas (Greece) and RWS-RIZA (Institute for Inland Water Management and Waste Water Treatment), The Netherlands.

Related software and / or KBs

  • a process KB is description of a process, defined in the KB-editor; see modelling KB or other process KBs.
  • KB-editor is a web based tool to facilitate developing, maintaining and upgrading ontological knowledge bases (including process knowledge bases), pre-structured in Protégé; see KB-editor;
  • MoST can handle modelling knowledge from the modelling KB and provides its knowledge content as guidance for the modelling process in modelling projects; see MoST;
  • the modelling KB is description of the modelling process (especially for model-based water management), defined in the KB-editor; see modelling KB.
